The Chambers Railroad Covered Bridge is 78 feet in length and
built in 1936. It is the last covered railroad bridge in the
state.
It was constructed by a railroad company as a logging spur to bring
trainloads
of logs to a local mill. Actual use of the bridge was of
short duration,
as in 1943 the sawmill burnt to the ground.
The bridge was inspected under the Covered Bridge program in the period
1993 -1995. Inspection showed extensive decay in the
structure. Because of
the decay and rotted timbers the structure now leans about 12 inches to
the uphill
side of the stream that runs under the bridge.
The bridge abandoned for years has been the target of arsonists
as charred timbers can attest.
